Abstract

Purpose: This research investigates the impact of work discipline, work motivation, and competence on career development among teachers at two junior high schools in Jakarta.

Methods: This study utilizes an associative research design with a quantitative approach, focusing on a sample of 87 teachers from the selected schools. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed via Google Forms, employing a Likert scale for measurement.

Findings: The analysis involved coefficient of determination and hypothesis testing using t-tests and f-tests, with data processed using SPSS version 26. The findings reveal that while work discipline does not significantly influence teacher career development, work motivation and competence positively affect it. Collectively, these factors contribute to the overall career development of teachers.

Practical implications:  The results suggest that school administrators should prioritize enhancing work motivation and competence among teachers to foster their career development. Implementing targeted professional development programs and motivational initiatives can create a more supportive environment that encourages teachers to advance in their careers, ultimately benefiting the educational institution and its students.
